Description:
Practical study of the practices associated with utilizing transported cooled semen in the breeding of horses.
(Stallion owners - participation in the Equine Artificial Insemination School or previous equine A.I. experience is strongly recommended.)
Lectures:
- Overview & keys to success
- Preliminary steps & procedural guidelines
- Costs associated with transported cooled semen
- Containers, equipment & supplies
- Cooled semen research (fertility, containers & extenders)
- Mare management (hormone & examination protocols)
- Calculating shipping dose & extender dilution
- Utilizing a cooled semen information form
- Shipping procedures (courier, airline, bus)
- Contracts
Demonstration Lab:
- Packaging semen & containers for shipment
Hands-on Labs:
- Assessing motility of cooled semen
- Inseminating the mare
- Time: 8:15 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Enrollment: Maximum 10 participants
- Course Fee: $125 per participant
$90 for 2nd person - spouse or farm assistant
